In short: Robbie Gould entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, only to become one of the most reliable scorers in league history. Across 18 seasons, he achieved a rare level of postseason perfection, converting every single field goal and extra point attempt he faced in the playoffs.

After being released by the Baltimore Ravens and working in construction, Gould signed with the Chicago Bears in October 2005. He would go on to become the franchise's all-time leading scorer, finishing his tenure in Chicago with 1,207 points. He demonstrated immense reliability under pressure, successfully landing every one of his 29 field goals and 39 extra points throughout the playoffs. His remarkable consistency was evident early on when he broke the Bears' record for consecutive field goals in 2006. This performance earned him first-team All-Pro honours during that same season.

Gould's career was marked by significant milestones and high-value contracts. In 2008, he became the NFL's highest-paid kicker after signing a $15.5 million extension with the Bears. He later signed a $15 million extension with the same team in 2013, which included $9 million guaranteed. Upon retiring, he stood as the NFL's 10th highest scorer ever and the ninth most precise kicker in league history. He also achieved a significant milestone in 2013 by becoming only the second player in Chicago history to surpass 1,000 career points.

His journey took him through several major franchises, including the New England Patriots, where he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and the San Francisco 49ers, where he played during their Super Bowl LIV campaign. Throughout his 18 seasons, Gould demonstrated remarkable versatility, winning multiple NFC Special Teams Player of the Week and Player of the Month honors across different decades of play. During his time with the 49ers, he achieved a rare feat by making six field goals in a single game against the Tennessee Titans.
