The prolific winger who rewrote the Super League record books
In short: In 2024, Ryan Hall achieved something few in rugby league history ever have. By overtaking Danny McGuire, he became the Super League's all-time leading try scorer, cementing a legacy built on clinical finishing and remarkable longevity across England and the NRL.
Ryan Hall's ascent began in the Leeds Rhinos academy, where he progressed from the Junior Academy to the senior side following a recommendation from his amateur coach at Oulton Raiders. His professional debut arrived in May 2007 during a high-scoring, controversial 42–38 victory over the Bradford Bulls at Millennium Stadium. Following a remarkable campaign involving 31 tries across 30 matches, Hall secured the Rugby League International Federation's Rookie of the Year title by late 2009.
His career is defined by a remarkable collection of silverware and individual honours. Between 2008 and 2017, Hall secured six Super League Grand Final titles with Leeds. His individual accolades include being named the 'World's Best Winger' in 2012 and winning the Lance Todd Trophy in 2014 after a dominant Challenge Cup performance. On the international stage, he became England's joint appearance maker and all-time top scorer, notably scoring eight tries during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
While much of his success was forged at Leeds, Hall's journey included a stint in the NRL with the Sydney Roosters between 2019 and 2020. Following this period, he moved to Hull Kingston Rovers, where he continued his scoring prowess, including a hat-trick against arch-rivals Hull F.C. in 2023. As of 2024, Hall's enduring impact on the sport is evidenced by his record-breaking tally, making him a definitive figure in the history of the Super League.
