Sersi is the most powerful matter-transmuting Eternal, capable of rearranging atomic structures at will.
In short: A fourth-generation Eternal who revels in humanity, Sersi has lived among mortals for millennia, serving as inspiration for Homer’s Circe and aiding historical figures like King Arthur. While her peers hide in secret cities, she has been an adventurer, dancer, and Avenger, wielding unmatched molecular manipulation powers that even leaders fear.
Sersi is a fourth-generation Eternal, an evolutionary offshoot of humanity, likely born in Olympia, Greece, following the Great Cataclysm of the Hyborean Age. Unlike her reclusive kin, she has spent centuries living among humans, adopting roles ranging from stage magician to party planner. Her unique affinity for human life has led her to cross paths with historical and legendary figures, including the poet Homer, whom she reportedly inspired to create the character Circe. Her long history includes helping Merlin in Camelot and fighting alongside Thor during the Viking Siege of Paris.
Her primary ability is the psionic rearrangement of molecular and atomic structures. As the only living Fifth Level adept in matter transmutation, her skill far surpasses that of any other Eternal. While she has often passed these abilities off as magic or illusions, her power is absolute, allowing her to alter the composition of both inorganic and living matter. This immense capability has made her a target of suspicion; she once claimed that even Zuras, the leader of the Eternals, feared her, and others have suggested she is the most powerful of their race.
Sersi’s life has been marked by instability and cosmic conflict. She joined the Avengers in 1990 and later faced the villain Proctor, an alternate-universe version of her partner, the Black Knight. Her mental health has been a recurring concern, with some Eternals fearing she suffered from Mahd W'yry, a breakdown caused by their extended lifespans. Despite these struggles, she remains a central figure in Marvel lore, appearing in various media including the 2021 film Eternals, where she is portrayed by Gemma Chan as an empathetic leader with a deep connection to the human world.
