His dominance was reflected in the league's record books: he led the NFL in punting average five times and held the all-time career punting average record for nearly twenty years. His impact was so profound that he was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team alongside Hall of Famer Ray Guy.
Beyond the distance, Lechler's value lay in his ability to execute high-stakes plays. He was a reliable holder for field goals and even threw touchdown passes on fake attempts in both college and the pros. A $12 million, four-year deal reached his peak market worth in 2009, establishing him as the league's top-earning punter.
