From daytime television stars to Emmy-winning roles and unexpected returns
In short: Tamara Braun has become a familiar face across the landscape of American soap operas. From her early work on General Hospital to her award-winning performances on Days of Our Lives, her career is defined by a recurring ability to inhabit complex characters and return to iconic series in transformative new roles.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, to a family of Jewish descent on April 18, 1971, Tamara Braun has built a prolific career in daytime television. She first gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Carly Corinthos on General Hospital, a role she held from 2001 to 2005. During this period, her character was central to high-stakes romantic storylines involving Sonny Corinthos and Lorenzo Alcazar. She also appeared on the ABC sitcom Freddie. Additionally, she had a role in the independent film Limbo Lounge.
The industry officially acknowledged Braun's skill in 2009, when she secured a Daytime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Ava Vitali on Days of Our Lives. This role proved to be a cornerstone of her career, leading to multiple stints on the series. She first appeared as Ava in 2008, returned in 2015 for the show's 50th anniversary, and again in 2020, eventually departing the role in April 2025 after filming had concluded the previous July. Her work on the TNT series Saving Grace also featured her as Renee Ellen. Furthermore, she was seen in the 2007 season opener of Without a Trace.
Her versatility is further evidenced by her ability to inhabit entirely different personas within the same series. In 2011, she appeared on Days of Our Lives as Taylor Walker, and in 2017, she returned to General Hospital to play Kim Nero, the single mother of Oscar. This role earned her a second Daytime Emmy in 2020. Beyond soaps, Braun has explored independent film, such as Little Chenier, and various television guest roles, demonstrating a career marked by consistent presence and critical acclaim in the television industry. Braun has also appeared on CBS programmes such as Cold Case and Ghost Whisperer. Finally, she joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as Sienna Bacall.
