From high school standout to NBA playmaker and front office executive
In short: Terance Mann’s journey from the prep courts of New Hampshire to the NBA highlights a steady ascent. While many players find a niche, Mann has balanced being a versatile scoring threat with the strategic foresight to join his alma mater's front office while still active in the league.
Mann's path to professional basketball was shaped by a diverse upbringing, moving from Brooklyn to Massachusetts at age 10. During his final year at New Hampshire's Tilton School, he commanded 23.1 points and 7.8 rebounds each match, guiding his squad to a 31–5 season and a Class AA title. This performance earned him a four-star recruit status and a scholarship to Florida State, where he turned down major offers from programs like Indiana and Maryland.
His collegiate career was marked by both physical setbacks and significant growth. After a freshman year playing behind established stars, he suffered a torn abdominal and groin muscle during the 2017 NCAA Tournament. However, he rebounded to become a key leader, eventually finishing his college career as one of the school's top performers in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. His ability to contribute across multiple categories paved the way for his selection by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 48th spot of the 2019 NBA draft.
In the NBA, Mann became known for his reliability during high-pressure moments. A defining turn came during the 2021 Western Conference Semifinals when he stepped into the starting lineup due to an injury to Kawhi Leonard. In a pivotal Game 6, he scored a career-high 39 points, including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, helping propel the Clippers to their first-ever Western Conference Finals appearance. By 2025, his career expanded further as he transitioned to the Atlanta Hawks and later the Brooklyn Nets, while simultaneously taking on a leadership role as an assistant general manager for Florida State.
