How UK-funded training is unearthing Iraq's ancient history through hands-on archaeological fieldwork.

In short: The Iraq Emergency Heritage Management Training Scheme bridges the gap between museum expertise and field discovery. This programme provides participants with four months of intensive training, split between London and active excavation sites in Iraq, to preserve and explore the region's rich archaeological heritage.

The initiative, supported by the UK government, combines two months of academic preparation at the British Museum with two months of practical experience in the field. Participants work across two distinct locations: Tello, the site of the ancient Sumerian city of Girsu in southern Iraq, and Darband-i Rania, a northern region previously untouched by archaeological exploration.
