From gymnastics to championship gold: the rapid ascent of Thea Hail
In short: Before she was a household name in WWE's NXT, Madison Knisley was a gymnast in Pennsylvania. Her transition from the gym to the wrestling ring has been marked by unexpected title wins and high-stakes drama, proving that even the most unplanned moments can lead to professional glory.
Born on September 9, 2003, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Madison Knisley began her athletic journey far from the bright lights of professional wrestling. A former gymnast who trained in Monroeville, she transitioned to the ring in late 2021, making her professional debut on AEW Dark under the name Nikita Knight. During that period, she faced opponents like Thunder Rosa and Julia Hart, marking the first steps of a career that would soon shift toward a major global stage.
In March 2022, Knisley was announced as one of 14 recruits for the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. By April 2022, she adopted the persona of Thea Hail and joined the Chase University stable in NXT. During her time with the faction, she faced internal conflicts, such as a rivalry against Schism and a win in an eight-person mixed tag team match during the 2023 NXT Stand & Deliver kickoff. However, the stability of Chase University was short-lived, eventually disbanding in November 2024 after Ridge Holland defeated Andre Chase with the stable's future on the line.
Hail's career reached a significant milestone in December 2025. During a match against Blake Monroe, a botched pinfall led to an unplanned title change, resulting in Hail winning the NXT Women's North American Championship—the first title of her career. Her reign lasted 21 days before she lost the championship to Izzi Dame on January 6, 2026. Beyond the ring, Knisley has been open about her personal health, announcing a diagnosis of alopecia areata on August 27, 2026.
Despite the ups and downs of championship pursuits and health challenges, her technical skill has been recognized by industry metrics, such as being ranked No. 115 in the 2023 PWI Women's 250.
