From gymnast to champion: the rapid rise of WWE star Kelani Jordan
In short: Lea Mitchell, known to wrestling fans as Kelani Jordan, has quickly ascended the ranks of professional wrestling. A former artistic gymnast, she transitioned to the ring in 2022. Today, she holds prestigious titles across both WWE and TNA, marking her as one of the most versatile performers in the industry.
Born on October 22, 1998, Lea Mitchell entered the WWE Performance Center in August 2022 following her signing. Her early career saw her debut in a battle royal at an NXT live event in October of that year. By mid-2023, she adopted the ring name Kelani Jordan and began her journey on the NXT brand, initially appearing as a protégé of Dana Brooke before forging her own path through various tournaments and high-stakes matches.
Jordan achieved a significant milestone on June 9, 2024, when she emerged victorious in a ladder match to claim the inaugural NXT Women's North American Championship. She held this title for 140 days before Fallon Henley defeated her in October 2024. Her success extended to the partner promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), where she captured the TNA Knockouts World Championship in September 2025 after winning a battle royal and subsequently defeating Léi Ying Lee.
Her career is defined by a series of historic achievements. By August 30, 2026, when she defeated Kendal Grey for the NXT Women's Championship, she became only the second wrestler to hold both that title and the TNA Knockouts World Championship. Furthermore, she is the third woman to have secured both the NXT Women's Championship and the NXT Women's North American Championship. Beyond her professional accolades, Jordan remains inspired by figures like Bianca Belair, Bryan Danielson, and Rob Van Dam, and she is engaged to fellow wrestler Carmelo Hayes, whose legal name is Christian Brigham.
The evolution of her character has been marked by notable shifts, including a transition to a villainous persona in late 2025. This change followed a controversial title defense against Jordynne Grace, where she utilized underhanded tactics to retain her championship. Despite the criticism from fans, Jordan has remained a dominant force, continuing to navigate the complex landscape of professional wrestling with a blend of athletic prowess and strategic maneuvering.
