From digital media to global reach: the evolution of a wrestling title
In short: A championship belt can define a promotion's identity. In 2025, TNA Wrestling retired a digital-focused title to birth the TNA International Championship. What began as a replacement for a niche trophy quickly evolved into a multi-colored, multi-reign history of global ambition.
March 29, 2025, marked the formal creation of the TNA International Championship. While filming for Impact! Santino Marella, the TNA Director of Authority, revoked Steph De Lander's TNA Digital Media Championship, abolished that belt, and introduced the International Championship instead. This transition signaled a shift toward a more traditional, globally-branded championship structure.
To crown the first champion, TNA organized a tournament featuring four sets of triple threat matches. The road to the inaugural title began on April 10, 2025, with A. J. Francis defeating Mance Warner and Sami Callihan. The tournament concluded on April 17 at the Unbreakable event, where Steve Maclin defeated Eric Young and Francis to become the first champion. Maclin’s initial reign lasted 162 days, the longest in the title's history.
The championship's physical appearance has also been subject to change. The original design features a light blue leather strap and a gold center plate depicting a light blue earth with gold land and various country flags. However, the title saw a unique variation when Trey Miguel debuted a custom light green leather strap version with silver plates in February 2026. This look was eventually reverted to the original gold-and-blue design after Mustafa Ali defeated Miguel at Rebellion.
As of October 12, 2026, the title has seen nine reigns among six different wrestlers. The belt features varied ages among holders, despite Maclin, Ali, and Jason Hotch sharing the lead with two reigns apiece. Frankie Kazarian became the oldest champion at 48 years old, while Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo holds the record as the youngest champion, winning it at 28 years old.
