From Louisiana high school standout to the Carolina Panthers' fourth-round pick
In short: Trevor Etienne's path to the NFL was marked by explosive collegiate performances and high-stakes transfers. After dominating the SEC with both Florida and Georgia, the running back transitioned from a highly recruited prospect to a professional player in the 2025 NFL draft.
Born on July 9, 2004, Trevor Etienne emerged as a premier talent during his time at Jennings High School in Louisiana. His high school career was defined by significant production, including 2,455 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns. By his senior year, he had amassed 1,344 yards and 20 touchdowns, earning a spot on the All-American Bowl Roster and committing to the University of Florida over major programs like LSU and Clemson.
Etienne's collegiate journey saw him navigate the complexities of the transfer portal. During his freshman season in 2022 at Florida, he recorded 719 yards and six touchdowns, earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors. His sophomore campaign included a standout performance against No. 11 Tennessee, where he rushed for 173 yards to secure a 29-16 upset. Following the 2023 season, Etienne entered the transfer portal and eventually announced his move to the University of Georgia on December 24, 2023.
At Georgia, Etienne continued to deliver in critical moments, such as rushing for 87 yards and three touchdowns against No. 1 Texas. He also played a vital role in Georgia's 22-19 overtime victory against No. 2 Texas in the 2024 SEC Championship Game. After declaring for the NFL draft on January 15, 2025, he was selected 114th overall in the fourth round by the Carolina Panthers. His professional debut season included appearances in all 17 regular-season games, though his rookie campaign was marked by a muffed punt in a Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite his rising trajectory, Etienne's career has faced hurdles, including a March 2024 arrest for DUI and reckless driving and being placed on injured reserve on August 30, 2026.
