From 'The Inflictor' to a historic sporting double
In short: Victor Radley built a reputation on bone-jarring tackles and a relentless physical style. But his career has been defined by as much as it has by his on-field dominance, spanning elite premiership glory, high-profile disciplinary scandals, and a unique milestone in international rugby league.
Born in Sydney in 1998 and raised in Bronte, Radley developed his craft in rugby union before transitioning to the Sydney Roosters' NYC team. He quickly established himself as a powerhouse, earning the nickname "Victor the Inflictor" in 2019 after executing two significant try-saving tackles against Manly. This physical identity propelled him to back-to-back premierships in 2018 and 2019, as well as a third title in 2026.
However, Radley's career has been punctuated by significant off-field controversies. In 2020 and 2021, he faced multiple suspensions and fines for incidents ranging from a house party altercation in Byron Bay to being removed from a flight for intoxication. In 2025, his career faced a severe crisis when he was implicated in a drug-related investigation involving former teammate Brandon Smith. This led to a record-breaking 10-game suspension without pay and a $30,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute—the largest sanction in the Sydney Roosters' history.
Despite these setbacks, Radley achieved a rare feat in 2026. Following a domestic suspension that excluded him from the England Ashes, he first played for New South Wales during the opening 2026 State of Origin match. By doing so, he became the first person in history to represent both England and New South Wales at the international level, cementing a complex legacy of both individual brilliance and disciplinary struggle.
