The specialist who scored the first points in Allegiant Stadium history
In short: From an undrafted free agent to an NFL record-breaker, Wil Lutz has mastered the high-pressure art of kicking. His precision has not only secured game-winning field goals but has also etched his name into the history books of entire stadiums and franchises.
Wil Lutz, born July 7, 1994, in Newnan, Georgia, has built a career defined by clutch performances and statistical milestones. After playing for Georgia State University, where he set a school record with a 53-yard field goal against Alabama in 2013, Lutz entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He first signed with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2016, but it was with the New Orleans Saints that he truly made his mark.
During his tenure with the Saints, Lutz achieved several significant feats. He established a franchise rookie record during 2016, recording 28 successful field goals throughout that campaign. He also became a rare two-time NFC Special Teams Player of the Week winner in a single season. During a 2019 season opener, he secured an NFL-record 58-yard field goal to win a game against the Houston Texans as time expired.
Lutz's impact extends to the very architecture of modern stadiums. In 2020, he scored the first points in the history of Allegiant Stadium when he converted a 31-yard field goal during the opening drive against the Las Vegas Raiders. Now playing for the Denver Broncos, Lutz continues to demonstrate his longevity and precision. Reaching the 1,000-point mark faster than almost anyone in NFL history, he ranks as the fifth-quickest player to do so through his reliable precision during critical plays.
