From record-breaking quarterback to the helm of Tulane University
In short: Before he was a head coach, Will Hall was a statistical phenomenon on the field. A former NJCAA record-holder and Harlon Hill Trophy winner, his journey through the ranks of college football reveals a career defined by high-octane offenses and a steady climb through the coaching hierarchy.
Will Hall’s ascent began with extraordinary numbers as a player. During his 1999 and 2000 seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College, he earned NJCAA All-American honors. In 2000, he set a single-season NJCAA record for total offense with 4,075 yards, a feat highlighted by a 69–37 victory over East Mississippi Community College where he threw nine touchdown passes.
His success continued at the University of North Alabama from 2002 to 2003. As a quarterback, Hall led the Lions to a 13–1 record and a place in the NCAA Division II semifinals. His individual performance was equally dominant; in 200 and 2003, he completed 71.8 percent of his passes for 3,531 yards and 30 touchdowns, while adding 467 rushing yards and five scores. This excellence earned him the 2003 Harlon Hill Trophy, the highest individual honor in Division II football.
Transitioning to coaching, Hall built a reputation as an offensive specialist. After holding assistant roles at institutions like Presbyterian and Arkansas-Monticello, he became the offensive coordinator at West Alabama, where he helped lead the team to a 155.8 pass efficiency rating in 2010. This success paved the way for his head coaching career, including stints at West Georgia, Southern Mississippi, and eventually Tulane University, where he assumed the head coaching role in 2026.
However, the path has not been without volatility. After a successful period at West Georgia, Hall’s tenure at Southern Mississippi ended in October 2024 following a 14–30 overall record and a difficult 1–6 start to the 2024 season. Despite this, his expertise in the passing game led to his appointment as Tulane's pass game coordinator in early 2025.
