Why the most powerful tool for social change is a young person's voice

Want to Make a Change? Let Young People Tell Their Stories | Anshul Tewari | TED · 9:44 · Video: TED · Watch at the source

In short: Anshul Tewari explains how he transformed a simple blog into India's largest citizen media platform. By empowering youth to share their own experiences, he demonstrates how authentic storytelling builds the agency necessary to tackle everything from local infrastructure to national climate policy.

Anshul Tewari, a social entrepreneur, founded Youth Ki Awaaz—or Voice of the Youth—after realizing that young people were consistently excluded from critical public discourse. What began as a modest personal project has evolved into a massive digital ecosystem where over 200,000 contributors document underrepresented issues every month.

The platform serves as a catalyst for both individual and collective action. Contributors have used the space to drive tangible results, ranging from the electrification of remote, forgotten villages to the mobilization of national climate campaigns. Tewari argues that when young people are given the agency to tell their own stories, they move from the sidelines of history to the center of social change.
