In short: From the high-energy dance floors of 1990s Europe to the foundational blocks of modern computer science, the name Snap! masks two entirely different legacies. One is a masterclass in musical branding and global pop success; the other is a gateway to the logic of the digital age.

In the realm of music, Snap! was a German Eurodance project born in 1989 from the collaboration of producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti. To navigate potential prejudices against German music, the duo adopted the aliases Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III. This strategic branding helped propel their debut hit, "The Power," to No. 2 in Germany and No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 by 1990, eventually selling over 1,000,000 units in the United States.

The group's trajectory was defined by constant evolution and high-profile collaborations. They transitioned from early hits like "Ooops Up" to their most enduring success, "Rhythm Is a Dancer," in 1992. This track, which sampled Newcleus's "Automan," became a massive international hit, reaching No. 1 in countries including the UK, France, and the Netherlands. Throughout the 1990s, the group experimented with progressive house sounds and diverse vocalists, including Thea Austin and Summer (Paula Brown), before officially disbanding in 1996.

Simultaneously, a completely unrelated Snap! exists as a cornerstone of educational technology. Developed by UC Berkeley, this Snap! is a blocks-based programming language. Unlike the fleeting fame of the dance group, this Snap! serves as a platform for serious computer science study, designed to be accessible for both children and adults. While the musical act focused on the aesthetics of the dance floor, the programming language focuses on the architecture of logic, used by hundreds of thousands of programmers worldwide.
