The hidden aggression of Italy's most elegant water birds
In short: Beneath the serene surface of Italian lakes lies a demographic shift driven by two powerful avian species. This documentary explores how these birds are expanding their territories and the ecological consequences of their success.
While the Mute Swan is often viewed as a regal, calm fixture of parks and gardens, it is actually a highly energetic bird that actively challenges humans and does not tolerate intruders. Its population is currently experiencing a significant boom across Italy.
The documentary also examines the cormorant and various heron species. While their impact on fish resources remains negligible at low populations, a demographic surge forces these predators into urban centers to find food as natural lake and sea resources become insufficient.
