The biological architecture of a nest made from living bodies
In short: In a startling display of colonial behavior, certain ants construct palaces using other live ants as building materials. This video explores the brutal logistics of these colonies and the fierce battles they wage to secure resources.
The footage captures driver ants preparing for the arrival of a new Queen by constructing a nest made entirely out of live ants. To sustain their growing populations, these colonies engage in aggressive expansion, hunting diverse prey including spiders, scorpions, and forest crabs.
A primary conflict highlighted is the war against termites. Driven by hungry grubs within the nest, the ants use chemical weapons and powerful jaws to crush their adversaries. The video provides a rare look at the internal mechanics of these colonies and the raw violence required for their survival.
