The hidden lives of domestic animals reclaiming the wild
In short: Millions of once-domesticated animals have escaped or been abandoned, carving out new lives in unexpected environments. This journey explores how these resourceful creatures adapt to freedom and the complex human politics surrounding their survival.
Host Erin Skillen travels from the Cook Islands to Canada to document the lives of feral animals, such as wild camels in Australia and giant American bullfrogs in British Columbia. The series examines the dual nature of these populations: they are often viewed as pests to be eliminated by some, while others work to protect their freedom from encroaching dangers.
The footage highlights the diverse ways these animals have claimed new territories, from stray dogs on Rarotonga beaches to abandoned cats in Rome. It explores the environmental consequences of these shifts and the intimate stories of animals navigating a world they were never meant to inhabit alone.
