How killer whales use coordinated tactics to hunt seals on Antarctic ice
In short: This video captures the first time researchers witnessed an orca pod using synchronized techniques to hunt seals on ice, a behavior documented as far back as Scott of the Antarctic's diary.
The footage shows a highly organized hunting strategy where killer whales work in unison to target seals on floating ice. This coordinated attack behavior is a sophisticated example of social hunting, a phenomenon that has been noted in historical accounts, including the diaries of Scott of the Antarctic.
