The brutal transition from cub to exile in the lion kingdom
In short: Watch how the social structure of a lion pride dictates survival. This documentary explores the violent shift that occurs when young males reach adolescence and are forced into a life of exile.
In Ruaha National Park, the social dynamics of three distinct lion families revolve around a unique oasis known as the Glade. While the small pride residing there possesses the remarkable skill of taking down adult giraffes, their peace is frequently disrupted by 'drifters'—ruthless, lean lions who engage in all-out war over territory.
The narrative focuses on the biological imperative of the pride: fathers eventually turn on their own sons as they reach maturity, expelling them from the safety of the group. These exiled males must navigate a perilous existence, joining other outcasts in a struggle where the only true security is found within the pride's hierarchy.
