The Pharaoh who tried to rewrite history and dismantle Egypt's ancient gods
In short: While known for Greek mythology, the Greeking Out podcast explores the radical reign of Akhenaten, the father of King Tut. This episode examines how he attempted to overhaul Egyptian religion and politics, leaving behind a legacy of upheaval that remains visible in his bust today.
Akhenaten is remembered as the heretic king who sought to reset the religious and political foundations of ancient Egypt. His efforts to transform the state were so disruptive that his successors attempted to erase his influence by smashing his likeness in the 14th century B.C.
The physical scars of this historical rejection are still visible on his bust, currently housed in Berlin's Neues Museum. These ancient damages were further compounded by modern history, as the artifact sustained additional harm during the bombardments of World War II.
