The ancient bond between the Sami people and reindeer
In short: Wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan journeys into Finnish Lapland to live with a Sami family. He seeks to understand their nomadic heritage and the profound connection they share with reindeer in one of the world's harshest environments.
The video follows Gordon as he immerses himself in the culture of the 'reindeer people.' Traditionally nomadic, the Sami relied on these animals for survival against the Arctic winter. To prepare for his solo journey into the frozen wilderness, Gordon first lives with a host family to earn the trust of his own reindeer companion.
The narrative culminates in an attempt to witness the Northern Lights, a natural phenomenon deeply revered by the Sami people. By blending personal experience with cultural history, the film explores how human survival and spiritual reverence are often intertwined with the natural world.
