Survival in the abyss is a game of biological hijacking
In short: In the sunless depths of the ocean, cooperation is often an illusion. This documentary explores how deep-sea creatures survive not through peaceful mutualism, but through ruthless exploitation and forced biological merging.
The video examines extreme evolutionary strategies where survival depends on hijacking a neighbor's biological machinery. Key examples include parasitic copepods that blind Greenland sharks and the biochemical enslavement of bacteria within giant tube worms at hydrothermal vents.
Additional notable actions involve anglerfish using glowing bacteria for deadly visual deceptions, alongside zombie worms that break down whale remains via chemical processes within a barren abyss.
