In short: The 2025 Tour de France saw Tadej Pogačar cement his status as a cycling titan, winning his fourth title in six years. Despite a late-race knee injury and a controversial new route through Paris, Pogačar maintained a crushing lead, finishing over four minutes ahead of his closest rival, Jonas Vingegaard.

The 2025 edition of the Tour de France, the 112th in history, began in Lille on 5 July and concluded in Paris on 27 July. The route was defined by a stark contrast between its two halves: the first ten stages featured flat and hilly terrain, while the latter portion focused on relentless mountain climbs in the Pyrenees and the Alps. Organizers introduced five summit finishes, including the iconic Mont Ventoux and Col de la Loze. Notably, the race featured a unique final stage in Paris, which incorporated climbs of Montmartre inspired by the 2024 Summer Olympics, a change that drew criticism from riders like Wout van Aert, who called the route dangerous.

Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates XRG asserted his dominance early, securing the yellow jersey after the first individual time trial in Caen. His performance in the Pyrenees, particularly his victory on the Hautacam climb, proved decisive. Although Pogačar faced pressure from Jonas Vingegaard of Visma–Lease a Bike throughout the race, he successfully defended his lead, finishing with a final advantage of four minutes and 24 seconds. It was later revealed that Pogačar had battled a knee injury during the final week, nearly forcing him to abandon the race entirely.

Beyond the general classification, the race saw notable achievements from other riders. Florian Lipowitz of Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe finished third, becoming the first German to reach the Tour podium since 2006, while also securing the white jersey for the best young rider. Jonathan Milan of Lidl–Trek claimed the points classification with 372 points. The event also saw high engagement, with a peak of 8.7 million French viewers watching the final stage, the highest figure in two decades. Of the 184 starters, 160 reached Paris, marking one of the lowest dropout rates of the 21st century.
