The 2027 Moto2 season marks a massive migration of talent
In short: The intermediate class of motorcycle racing is undergoing a structural earthquake. With a legendary team departing and a wave of new faces moving up from the junior ranks, the 2027 Moto2 World Championship is set to be a year of profound transition for the sport.
The 2027 season represents a significant turning point for the FIM Moto2 World Championship, particularly with the departure of the Marc VDS Racing Team. After 17 years of competition, the team will exit the championship, leaving a vacuum that has forced a reshuffling of the grid. This move has directly impacted several riders, notably Arón Canet, who returns to Reds Fantic Racing, and Deniz Öncü, who joins the Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team. The landscape is also being reshaped by the promotion of successful junior riders.
The 2026 Moto3 champion Máximo Quiles joins CFMoto Aspar Team, whereas Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP will field 2026 Moto3 runner-up David Almansa for his first intermediate class appearance. These shifts are part of a broader pattern of movement, including the arrival of Daniel Holgado and David Alonso at the CFMoto Aspar Team, and an entirely new lineup for the Klint Racing Team featuring Tony Arbolino and Adrián Huertas.
Geographically, the 2027 calendar is also in flux. While the Hungarian Grand Prix is officially off the schedule, the Argentine Grand Prix is making a notable return. It will move back to the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez—where it was last held in 1999—replacing the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo, which had hosted the event since 2014. Additionally, the Australian Grand Prix is set to relocate from Phillip Island to a modified version of the Adelaide Street Circuit, signaling a shift in the championship's traditional geography.
