In short: Champak Bansal, a small-town sweet-shop owner, vows to send his daughter to a prestigious university abroad. His promise triggers a chaotic international odyssey involving forged passports, police run-ins, and a high-stakes fundraiser. This poignant comedy drama marks the final cinematic performance of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan.

Directed by Homi Adajania, Angrezi Medium serves as a follow-up to the 2017 production Hindi Medium. The narrative centers on Champak Bansal, a widower from Udaipur who manages a local confectionery business. When his daughter, Tarika, earns a scholarship to Truford University in London, a public confrontation with a corrupt judge leads to the revocation of her opportunity. Driven by a fierce commitment to his daughter's aspirations, Champak embarks on a mission to get her to London regardless of the obstacles.

The journey is fraught with complications. After an initial attempt to enter the United Kingdom ends in deportation due to a misunderstanding with airport security, Champak and his brother Gopi turn to a fixer in Dubai. They acquire forged identities and re-enter London, where they navigate a complex web of family estrangement and police scrutiny. The plot culminates in a desperate effort to raise 300,000 pounds for a university renovation project, a sum that forces the family to confront the value of their own heritage and the true meaning of success.

Released in India on 13 March 2020, the film's theatrical run was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the closure of cinemas across the country by 24 March 2020. Consequently, the production shifted to a digital release on Disney+ Hotstar shortly thereafter. The film remains a significant cultural artifact, not only for its exploration of the immigrant experience and parental sacrifice but also as the last project completed by Irrfan Khan before his passing on 29 April 2020.
