In short: Before entering politics, Ben Obese-Jecty served as a British Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now a Member of Parliament for Huntingdon, he has gained a reputation for an extraordinary volume of parliamentary contributions, leading national leaderboards for activity during his first two years in office.

Ben Obese-Jecty, born in September 1979, entered Parliament in 2024 as the Member of Parliament for Huntingdon. His political career has been marked by high levels of activity; in September 2025, the Polimonitor leaderboard ranked him as the number one MP among 335 new members for parliamentary contributions during their first year. He maintained this momentum into his second year, again topping the leaderboard in May 2026 with a remarkable 3,256 contributions. His rapid rise was further highlighted in November 2024 when he was appointed an Assistant Junior Whip. He has since served as the Shadow Parliamentary Private Secretary for both Justice and Defence.

His path to Westminster involved a diverse professional background. After being educated at Tiffin School and Kingston University, he joined the British Army. On 11 December 2004, he joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment as a second lieutenant, later transferring to the Yorkshire Regiment after the 2006 merger. During Operation Herrick 11 (2009–2010), he deployed to Sangin, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, following a previous tour in Iraq.

In 2019, he contested the safe Labour constituency of Hackney North and Stoke Newington, securing second place with 11.9% of the vote. Since his election in 2024, he has held several roles, including Assistant Junior Whip and Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement. He has also been a vocal advocate for legislative changes, such as a Private Members' Bill regarding interpersonal abuse and amendments to the Armed Forces Bill regarding visa fees for military families. His advocacy extends to public safety, having tabled an amendment to the Sentencing Bill concerning driving bans for those causing death by careless driving. Furthermore, he has been a vocal critic of political defections, specifically regarding Robert Jenrick's move to Reform UK.
