In short: Conor Benn’s upbringing was a study in extreme contrast. While he lived in an eight-bedroom Spanish mansion with a pool and Jacuzzi, his father enforced a strict rule: no handouts. To survive, the future world title challenger had to work manual labor for pennies every single day.

Born in London in 1996, Conor Benn spent twelve years of his childhood on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Despite living in an opulent gated mansion with a pool and a private Jacuzzi in his room, his father, former two-division world champion Nigel Benn, insisted on financial self-reliance. Rather than receiving an allowance, Benn supported himself by working as a painter and decorator in Spain, earning just €20 a day for shifts lasting from six to five.

Benn’s path to the ring was geographically diverse. After his time in Spain, he moved to Sydney, Australia, as a teenager. It was there that he began boxing for the first time at the Vinegar Hill Boxing Club in Blacktown. He built a successful amateur record of 20 wins and 2 losses, frequently sparring with future world title contenders like Nikita Tszyu and Jai Opetaia before relocating to England at age 19.

His professional career has been marked by high-profile victories and significant controversy. After turning pro in 2016, he built an unbeaten streak that included a notable victory over Samuel Vargas in just 80 seconds. His career path shifted during late 2022, following two distinct VADA screenings that revealed traces of clomifene. This led to a complex legal battle with the UK Anti-Doping Agency and the British Boxing Board of Control, involving multiple appeals and the voluntary relinquishing of his boxing license before his provisional suspension was eventually lifted in November 2024.
