Are we ready to have a real conversation with another species?
In short: Scientists are using artificial intelligence and underwater acoustic arrays to decode dolphin clicks, whistles, and body signals. This documentary explores the quest to build a communication interface that could allow humans to share ideas and emotions with another mind.
Researchers in the Bahamas, France, and Japan are working to bridge the gap between human and dolphin communication. The footage captures decades of research, including dolphins responding to symbolic keyboards and demonstrating complex mimicry and cooperation.
Beyond the technical hurdles, the documentary examines the ethical implications of these breakthroughs. If dolphins possess high levels of social complexity and intelligence, it raises urgent questions regarding oceanic noise pollution, captivity controversies, and our moral responsibilities toward them.
