In short: Creepy Nuts chose a name with no deep meaning because they didn't think they would ever be famous. Yet, in 2024, this Japanese hip-hop duo shattered records, becoming the first Japanese artists to secure two RIAA Gold certifications and topping international charts.

Formed by DJ Matsunaga and R-Shitei, Creepy Nuts spent years building a foundation as independent artists. Their journey began with their first commercial song in 2013, followed by a management contract in 2015. They didn't reach major-label status until April 9, 2017, under Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Even then, they maintained creative control by establishing their own label, Creepers.

Their trajectory shifted toward global dominance through high-profile anime collaborations. The track "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" served as the opening theme for Mashle: Magic and Muscles in January 2024. It became a cultural phenomenon via the "BBBB Dance" internet challenge, spending 19 non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Japan Hot 100—the second longest run in history. The song eventually surpassed 500 million streams to earn a diamond certification from the RIAJ.

The duo's success is uniquely international. Following their breakthrough, they released "Otonoke" for the anime Dandadan, which also earned an RIAA Gold certification. This milestone made them the first Japanese artists to hold two such certifications in the United States. By 2026, their reach expanded further with a North America tour and a debut performance at Coachella, proving that their 'meaningless' name now carries massive weight.

Despite their fame, the duo remains focused on musical craft. In 2023, they intentionally reduced many media appearances to concentrate on their music, while continuing to host their midnight radio program on All Night Nippon.
