In short: Oladipo Omishore did not start his career in a high-end studio. He began by mixing sound in his own basement using a single software program, eventually crafting one of the most recognizable beats of the decade in just forty-eight hours.

Dot da Genius's trajectory is defined by a unique blend of technical academic training and self-taught musical intuition. Born in 1986 to Nigerian parents of the Yoruba tribe, Omishore was introduced to music early through piano lessons at the Brooklyn Music School. However, his formal education took a different turn when he attended the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. There, he studied electrical engineering while simultaneously playing on the university basketball team, graduating in 2008. This background in engineering likely informed his technical approach to audio engineering and sound-mixing, which he began practicing as early as 2003 using FL Studio.

His breakthrough came through a deep personal partnership with artist Kid Cudi. The two lived together for two years starting in 2006, a period of intense collaborative creation. This proximity allowed Omishore to produce "Day 'n' Nite," a track that became a massive hit in 2009 despite being completed in only two days.

The speed of this production is notable; the entire process from instrumental creation to final arrangement was finished without any subsequent edits. The song reached the top three in both the United States and the United Kingdom, establishing Omishore as a major force in the industry. Beyond his work with Cudi—which included forming the alternative rock band WZRD in 2010—Omishore has expanded into a prolific producer for icons like Kanye West, Nas, and Eminem. He also co-produced Lil Nas X's "Panini" and achieved his first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 with "The Scotts." Today, he balances these high-profile credits with his role as an entrepreneur, heading the HeadBanga Muzik Group and preparing for his own solo debut album.
