In short: Leslie Willis, better known as Livewire, began as a cynical Metropolis radio host before a freak lightning accident transformed her into a being of pure electricity. Across decades of comics and animation, she has shifted from a vengeful villain to a reformed hero, wielding powers that can both stun Superman and control global networks.

The character of Livewire was originally created for the 1997 Superman: The Animated Series, where she debuted as a radio personality whose career was defined by her vocal disdain for Superman. Her origin story has been reimagined several times. In her initial animated appearance, she was electrocuted during a concert at Centennial Park when a lightning strike was conducted through Superman. Later, in the main comic continuity established in 2006, her origin was tied to a workplace grievance after being fired from a radio station, leading her to absorb energy from a lightning bolt that left her with chalk-white skin and blue hair.

Livewire's abilities are defined by her capacity to absorb, manipulate, and generate vast quantities of electricity. She can transform her physical body into living current, allowing her to travel through power grids and command electronic devices. Despite this immense power, she possesses distinct vulnerabilities. Water can cause her stored energy to destabilize, and she can be rendered powerless if completely drenched. Similarly, silicon dust acts as a barrier due to its electrical resistance. When drained of her charge, she reverts to a solid human form, unable to utilize her metahuman gifts until she can recharge.

Beyond her role as a recurring antagonist, Livewire has undergone significant character development. In the Superman: Grounded storyline, she faced a crisis where her powers began to deteriorate, eventually leading to her reform with the help of Superman and the Supermen of America. Her narrative footprint is vast, appearing in diverse media ranging from the Arrowverse series Supergirl to the animated Harley Quinn and Young Justice. Whether portrayed as a vlogger attempting to reroute city power or a thief using alien technology, Livewire remains a versatile figure who frequently oscillates between the ranks of the Legion of Doom and the side of justice.
