From TV actors to award-winning Bollywood music directors
In short: Before they were defining the sound of modern Bollywood, Manmeet and Harmeet Singh were faces on television screens. Their transition from acting to music production highlights a unique pivot in Indian entertainment, moving from being in front of the camera to shaping the sonic identity of the nation's biggest hits.
The brothers Manmeet and Harmeet Singh began their careers as actors in Bollywood and television serials. The pair featured in prominent series including Shagun and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, whereas Harmeet also took roles in Hindi dramas like Kkusum and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. Following their hit single "Jogi Singh Barnala Singh", the duo opted to abandon their acting careers in favour of focusing on singing and music production. The brothers received their early education at Scindia School in Gwalior Fort. Harmeet completed his graduation at Sydenham College in Mumbai. Neither brother possesses formal training in music.
Their rise to prominence as music directors was solidified by specific projects. Although they first produced scores for Do Dooni Chaar and Isi Life Mein, it was the music from OMG – Oh My God! and Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum which earned them significant fame as composers. They later gained widespread praise through popular tracks such as "Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan" from Roy and "Baby Doll" from Ragini MMS 2. These works earned them prestigious honors, including Filmfare Awards, Screen Awards, and IIFA Awards for Best Music Director.
The duo's career path was not linear; they spent several years as a trio known as Meet Bros Anjjan alongside collaborator Anjjan Bhattacharya between 2010 and 2015. Following Bhattacharya's departure in 2015 to start his own business, the brothers continued independently, eventually opening their own recording studio. Their influence remains significant in contemporary Indian pop culture, though recent projects like their 2025 promotional single have sparked notable public debate. Manmeet also produced several television serials for Star Plus. The duo currently performs and hosts live concerts together. Their 2025 ballad featuring Varun Dhawan faced significant social media criticism.
