In short: Sajid and Wajid Khan were a powerhouse in Bollywood music, but their rhythmic success was mirrored by a complex private life. From their roots in classical tabla to navigating intense religious and familial pressures, their story reveals the profound human costs behind the cinematic melodies.

Sajid and Wajid Khan formed a prominent Indian Bollywood Hindi film music director duo, building upon a deep musical lineage. They were the sons of Sharafat Ali Khan, a tabla player, and their maternal grandfather was the Padma Shri awardee Ustad Faiyyaz Ahmed Khan. This heritage provided a foundation for their work, which ranged from scoring films like Salman Khan's 1998 Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya to composing title tracks for major television reality shows such as Bigg Boss 4 and Bigg Boss 6.

Beyond the studio, Wajid's personal life was marked by a decade-long courtship with Kamalrukh, a Zoroastrian woman. Their path to marriage was obstructed by religious differences, as Kamalrukh declined to convert from her Parsi faith to Wajid's Sunni Muslim faith. They eventually wed under the Special Marriages Act, a legal framework that allowed her to maintain her religion. Despite their union and two children, Arshi and Hrehaan, the marriage faced significant strain; Wajid filed for separation in 2014 due to persistent parental and religious pressures.

The duo's professional reach extended to reality television, where they served as mentors on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Hindi 2012. They also contributed to sports culture by composing the IPL 4 theme song, "Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Dhadaka". The partnership ended with the death of Wajid Khan on June 1, 2020. Following his passing, legal and familial disputes emerged regarding property and alimony, leaving much of his estate's distribution a matter of ongoing contention.
