From teaching dance for bus fare to global stage stardom
In short: Before becoming a global idol, Ni-Ki was a middle schooler teaching dance lessons just to afford his transportation costs. His journey from a local Japanese dancer to a member of the K-pop group Enhypen illustrates a rigorous path of artistic dedication and cross-cultural transition.
Ni-Ki, born Nishimura Riki on December 9, 2005, began his professional trajectory in Japan long before his international debut. By 2014, he was already appearing in commercials for Sony DVD players. His early career was defined by a diverse range of performances, including a 2016 appearance at a Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra concert and a role in a Michael Jackson tribute choreographed by Travis Payne.
These early experiences established his foundation in performance and choreography. In 2017, his visibility grew as he appeared in the Shinee World 2017 as a child dancer and in the music video for Yuzu's "タッタ." However, a significant pivot occurred in 2019 when he moved to South Korea to become a trainee under Belift.
This transition culminated in 2020 when he competed in the reality survival show I-Land. After placing fourth in the competition, he debuted on November 30, 2020, as a member of the boy band Enhypen. Since his debut, Ni-Ki has balanced group activities with individual artistic recognition. He has contributed to choreography for Enhypen's "Bite Me" and served as a special MC for KCON Japan 2023. His individual skill was notably highlighted in May 2024 on Studio Choom, where his performance of "HUMBLE" by Kendrick Lamar garnered over 30 million views by August 2026. His career trajectory highlights the evolution from a dedicated student of dance to a multi-faceted performer in the global music industry.
