The multi-talented path of a K-pop vocalist turned musical star
In short: From auditioning with musical theatre classics to leading a global boy band, Lee Seok-min’s career is defined by versatility. Known professionally as DK, he has transitioned from a trainee on reality television to a celebrated actor and global fashion ambassador.
Born in Seoul's Mapo District in 1997, Lee Seok-min—known as DK or Dokyeom—embarked on his musical journey after being inspired by the career of singer Yoon Do-hyun. His stage name, Dokyeom, carries a specific intention: 'Do' refers to a path, while 'Kyeom' means multitasker, reflecting a goal to become a multi-talented artist. After joining Pledis Entertainment in late 2011, he prepared for his debut by auditioning with songs ranging from YB Band's 'Peppermint Candy' to the Korean version of 'This Is the Moment' from Jekyll & Hyde.
DK rose to prominence as a main vocalist in the boy group Seventeen, which debuted on May 29, 2015, with the EP 17 Carat. Beyond the group, he has demonstrated significant range as a leader of the subunit BSS and as a musical theatre actor. In 2019, he made his stage debut playing Arthur in the South Korean production of Xcalibur. His performance was so impactful that critics, including composer Frank Wildhorn, commended his talent, and he earned nominations for 'Male Rookie Award' at the 4th Korea Musical Awards.
His influence extends into the worlds of high fashion and sports. In 2023, the Swiss luxury house Bally appointed him as a global brand ambassador, citing his versatility and amiable disposition. While his professional life is centered on music and acting, DK is also a dedicated sports enthusiast. He is a supporter of the Doosan Bears baseball team and even participated in throwing a ceremonial first pitch for them in April 2023.
