In short: Founded in 2010, Orlando City SC evolved from a minor league franchise into a Major League Soccer contender. After securing a downtown stadium and navigating years of playoff droughts, the club captured its first major trophy in 2022 and continues to attract global talent to the Florida soccer scene.

Orlando City SC began as a United Soccer League (USL) team in 2010, established by Phil Rawlins after he relocated the Austin Aztex to Florida. The club found immediate success in the lower divisions, winning two league championships and three Commissioner's Cups in its first four seasons. This dominance fueled a successful bid for Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion, with the team officially joining the league as its twenty-first franchise in 2013. The transition was marked by high-profile signings, most notably Brazilian legend Kaká, who became the club's first Designated Player in 2014.

The club's infrastructure grew alongside its ambitions. After playing early matches at the 70,000-seat Camping World Stadium, Orlando City moved into the purpose-built Inter.co Stadium in 2017. Originally planned with public funding, the venue was eventually privately financed by then-owner Flávio Augusto da Silva. The stadium has since become a hub for regional soccer, hosting the 2017 NWSL Championship and the 2019 MLS All-Star Game. In 2021, the club was sold to the Wilf family, owners of the Minnesota Vikings, in a deal valued at approximately $400–450 million.

Despite early struggles, including missing the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, the club found consistency under head coach Óscar Pareja, who arrived in 2020. The team finally broke its postseason drought and secured its first MLS-era trophy by winning the 2022 U.S. Open Cup. The club has also set records for player transfers, including the $14 million sale of Facundo Torres in 2024. As of 2026, the club continues to integrate world-class talent, recently signing FIFA World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann to bolster its roster for future campaigns.
