In short: Born in 2002, Pape Matar Sarr has rapidly ascended the ranks of professional football. From his debut in Senegal to securing major silverware in Europe, his journey reflects a blend of tactical discipline and international success. Discover the trajectory of a player who became a key figure for club and country.
Pape Matar Sarr began his professional career at Génération Foot in his home country of Senegal. His talent quickly drew attention, leading to a five-year deal with the French club Metz in September 2020. Although his initial stint involved the club's reserve side, the disruption of the season due to the pandemic accelerated his transition to the first team. By November 2020, he was making his Ligue 1 debut, and within months, he had opened his scoring account in the top flight.
His performance in France prompted a move to the Premier League, where he signed with Tottenham Hotspur in August 2021. After returning to Metz on loan, Sarr eventually established himself as a regular fixture in London. His impact culminated in a significant 2025 Europa League victory, where his decisive cross set up the game's only goal. Following a contract extension through 2030, he moved to Juventus on loan in September 2026 to continue his development in Serie A.
Beyond his club achievements, Sarr has been a vital component of the Senegal national team. He earned a prestigious state honor from President Macky Sall after contributing to the nation's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations triumph. His international experience spans multiple major tournaments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Recognized as the CAF Male Young Player of the Year in 2022, Sarr continues to represent his country on the global stage, including his selection for the 2026 World Cup squad.
