In short: Born into a military family, Pooja Batra transitioned from a successful modelling career to becoming a prominent figure in Indian cinema. Her journey spans from winning the 1993 Femina Miss India International title to starring in historical epics and international film festival selections, all while balancing a diverse academic background.

Pooja Batra was born on 27 October 1975 to parents Ravi and Neelam Batra. Her early life was rooted in Ludhiana, where she lived with her extended family. Her academic path was rigorous, leading her to graduate with a degree in Economics from Fergusson College in Pune, followed by an MBA in marketing from Symbiosis, also located in Pune. Beyond her studies, she was a dedicated athlete during her school years, competing in 200 and 400-meter dash events.

Batra's ascent to fame began in 1993 when she was crowned Femina Miss India International, a title that allowed her to represent India at the Miss International pageant that same year. Her striking presence quickly made her a staple in the advertising world, where she became widely recognized for her work in a Liril soap commercial and as the inaugural Indian spokesperson for Head & Shoulders. Over her career, she participated in more than 250 modelling events and fashion shows both within India and internationally.

Transitioning to the screen, Batra prioritized her education before signing her first film contract with Virasat Film Studio. Her debut, the 1997 film Virasat, launched a career that included roles in over 20 films, such as Haseena Maan Jayegi and Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye. Her work reached global audiences, notably with the 2004 historical epic Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. She has also contributed to South Indian cinema, including appearances in Malayalam and Tamil films, and continues to engage in philanthropic efforts, supporting causes ranging from the Mukti Foundation to the welfare of injured soldiers.
