In short: Before winning Femina Miss India in 2001, Celina Jaitly worked in mobile phone marketing. Her journey from a nomadic childhood in various Indian schools to becoming a prominent Bollywood actress and human rights advocate reveals a life shaped by both cinematic success and significant personal challenges.

Born in Shimla in 1981, Jaitly’s early years were defined by movement. As the daughter of Colonel Vikram Kumar Jaitly, her childhood was spent traversing India due to her father's military transfers. This nomadic lifestyle saw her attending over a dozen different schools, including City Montessori School in Lucknow and Canossa Convent School in Ranikhet. She eventually completed her degree in Commerce with Accountancy from IGNOU while living in Brahmapur, Odisha.

Her transition to fame began in 2001 when she secured the Femina Miss India title and later placed as the 4th runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant. This launched a film career that spanned several decades. While some films like the 2003 thriller Janasheen and the 2005 hit No Entry—which grossed ₹840.9 million—were successful, others like the 2004 romantic action film Khel were poorly received. Jaitly was known for her selectivity, famously turning down the lead role in the film Julie because she disagreed with the protagonist's motivations.

Beyond the screen, Jaitly has been a vocal advocate for social change. She supported the abolition of Section 377, which previously criminalized homosexuality in India, and participated in the 2014 UN campaign against homophobia. Her recent years have been marked by intense legal battles, including a 2025 domestic violence case in Mumbai and legal efforts to assist her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly, following his detention in the UAE.
