From a local judo gym to the world's biggest MMA stage
In short: Roberto Soldić didn't have a high-tech training facility in his hometown. Instead, he improvised across borders, moving from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Germany to turn a passion for martial arts into a multi-belt legacy. His journey reflects the grit of a fighter who built a career from the ground up.
Born in Vitez, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Soldić began his journey in a local judo gym. Because his hometown lacked adequate training conditions, he was forced to improvise, training at various gyms across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. This nomadic start eventually led him to Germany in 2015, where he joined the University of Fighting Gym Düsseldorf under Ivan Dijaković. This move allowed him to dedicate himself fully to the sport, quickly establishing him as a top European prospect.
Soldić's rise was marked by an extraordinary collection of titles. He secured the FFC welterweight title in December 2016 and won four more belts in less than a year, including titles in Superior FC and the Swiss MMA Championship (SMMAC). His career was defined by high-stakes moments, such as stepping up on just ten days' notice in December 2017 to face KSW champion Borys Mankowski. That victory earned him his fifth belt and significant media attention across Europe.
His professional trajectory has spanned multiple promotions and weight classes. After a stint in KSW where he captured both Welterweight and Middleweight championships, he moved to ONE Championship in 2022 before signing with the UFC in September 2026. Beyond MMA, Soldić has also competed in professional boxing, debuting in April 2016 and securing several victories in Germany. His career serves as a blueprint for the modern multi-disciplinary athlete.
Despite his success, the path was not linear. He suffered a notable upset in 2015 in Montenegro, where a last-minute rule change by organizers led to a unanimous decision loss that many felt was unfair. He also faced a setback in 2023 at ONE Fight Night 10, losing via TKO. These moments of adversity highlight the volatile nature of combat sports, where technical skill must constantly contend with unpredictable variables.
