In short: Founded in 1934, Rossiya Airlines has evolved from a regional player into a cornerstone of the Aeroflot Group. While currently banned from European Union airspace, the carrier serves over 120 destinations, acting as the primary base for Pulkovo Airport and connecting Russia's most significant territories.

Rossiya Airlines, a major Russian air carrier, has a history spanning nine decades. Established on 7 May 1934, the airline is a central component of the Aeroflot Group. It serves as the base carrier for Saint Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport and maintains a significant presence through 54 offices across Russia and abroad. The company maintains a branch in Moscow to support its extensive network. It has also served as the official carrier for the Zenit Saint Petersburg football club since 2014.

The airline's structure has undergone significant consolidation. In 2010, the Russian government moved to consolidate state-owned regional airlines into the flag carrier, Aeroflot, to improve financial viability. This led to the integration of Rossiya, Donavia, and Orenair under the Rossiya brand by 27 March 2016. This unification expanded the airline's reach to include 48 domestic and 42 international destinations. This strategic merger was intended to increase the financial viability of the state-owned regional carriers. The process of rebranding the company commenced simultaneously with the presentation of its updated corporate identity.

Beyond standard transport, Rossiya utilizes specialized aircraft liveries to promote cultural and social causes. These include designs featuring the rare Amur leopard, the State Hermitage Museum's Scythian deer, and tributes to Russian sports like Sambo. However, the airline faces operational constraints; since April 2022, US Department of Commerce restrictions on US-manufactured aircraft have impacted the fleet's ability to operate certain models. Special liveries have even been used to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg State University. Additionally, the airline recently unveiled a design for its 90th anniversary featuring a logo inspired by the infinity symbol.
