In short: In the cockpit of a Formula 2 car, a single stall or a broken steering wheel can end a championship dream. For Sebastián Montoya, success is often measured not by clean leads, but by the ability to charge from the back of the grid to the podium.

The career of Colombian-American driver Sebastián Montoya is defined by extreme volatility. Since his karting debut in 2013 at just eight years old, Montoya has navigated a path through the junior categories that oscillates between brilliant recovery drives and technical heartbreak. His trajectory through the FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships reveals a driver capable of immense pace, often overcoming significant mechanical and procedural setbacks.

In the 2024 Formula 3 season with Campos Racing, Montoya demonstrated a signature ability to salvage results from near-disaster. In Imola, he moved from 23rd to 10th in a single feature race, and in Silverstone, he recovered from a 15th-place start to finish 7th. However, these gains were frequently offset by incidents, such as a collision in Barcelona that resulted in a puncture and a penalty for failing to follow race director instructions.

His transition to Formula 2 with Prema Racing in late 2024 showcased a similar pattern of resilience. Despite stalling on the formation lap at both Imola and Monaco, he managed to secure his first F2 podium in Monaco. His 2024 season was marked by such high-pressure recoveries, including a charge from 21st to 9th in the Monza feature race despite suffering floor damage. While his results are often interrupted by penalties or mechanical issues, his ability to maintain momentum through chaos remains his defining characteristic.

Beyond the track, Montoya's professional landscape is expanding. In May 2025, he joined the management team, A14 Management, led by two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso. This move marks a significant shift in his career trajectory as he continues to compete in the upper tiers of single-seater racing.
