From the wrestling ring to Hollywood, the evolution of a Canadian screen giant
In short: Before he became a cinematic titan known for portraying iconic villains like Michael Myers and Sabretooth, Tyler Mane built a global career as a professional wrestler. His journey spans continents, from the rings of South Africa and Japan to the sets of major Hollywood blockbusters and his own production company.
Born Daryl Karolat in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1966, the future actor began his athletic training as a teenager in Calgary under Stu Hart. By 1986, he launched his wrestling career in Canada as Skywalker Nitron. His path quickly became international; he wrestled in Portland as Sky High Lee, toured South Africa in 1987, and eventually arrived in the United Kingdom to compete for Joint Promotions. His intense reaction to a referee's decision during a televised match became so memorable that it was integrated into the show's opening sequence.
Mane’s wrestling career was defined by his global mobility. He toured with New Japan Pro-Wrestling as Gully Gaspar, appeared in WCW as a bodyguard for the team Doom, and competed in Puerto Rico and Mexico. In 1994, he achieved a unique milestone by becoming the sole UWF MGM Grand Champion. Following the dissolution of the Universal Wrestling Federation in 1996, he transitioned into acting, having already made his film debut in 1992 while wrestling in Mexico.
His transition to Hollywood was marked by physical presence and persistence. Standing at 6' 8", he became the tallest actor to portray Michael Myers in the 2007 Halloween remake. He remains the first actor to play that iconic slasher in consecutive films. Beyond his work as a performer, he founded Mane Entertainment in 2010 with his wife, Renae Geerlings, to produce independent features. Despite a career spanning decades—from his 2000 breakout as Sabretooth in X-Men to his 2024 return to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine—Mane has remained active in both independent and major studio projects, while also navigating personal challenges, including a breast cancer diagnosis in 2026.
