In short: When the soundtrack for the action film xXx arrived in August 2002, it brought a high-octane blend of nu metal, techno, and hip hop to the mainstream. Beyond the cinema, this two-disc collection achieved significant commercial success, climbing the charts from the United States to Austria and beyond.

Released on August 6, 2002, through Universal Records and UMG Soundtracks, the album was structured as a dual-genre experience. The first disc focused on a fusion of alternative rock, techno, and nu metal, while the second disc, titled The Xander Xone, dedicated itself to ten hip hop tracks. Kathy Nelson, Neal H. Moritz, and Rob Cohen headed the production of this enormous undertaking, while Avery Lipman acted as executive producer.

The album's commercial performance varied by region, peaking at #8 in Austria and #9 in the United States. It also reached #12 in New Zealand, #24 in both Germany and Australia. Its success was officially recognized through several certifications: the RIAA granted it Gold status on September 16, 2002, while Music Canada awarded it 2× Platinum status, representing 200,000 copies, on April 11, 2003. On July 28, 2003, the album Gold earned Gold certification from Mexico's Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas.

Regional variations also altered the tracklists. For instance, the Canadian edition included the song "Juicy" by I Mother Earth, a track missing from the American version. In Australia, Germany, and New Zealand, the inclusion of "Me vs. Me" by 4Lyn as an eleventh track necessitated the removal of "Connected for Life" from the Xander Xone disc. Certain songs achieved separate popularity; for instance, 'Adrenaline' by Gavin Rossdale hit #20 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks list and #24 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks list. The music even crossed into professional wrestling, serving as the theme for the WWE 2002 Unforgiven event.
