From the TFF First League to a Juventus contract
In short: Zeki Çelik's rise in professional football is a study in rapid vertical mobility. Despite starting in Turkey's second tier, he secured a spot on the national team and moved through three different countries' top leagues in less than a decade.
In 2015, Zeki Çelik began his professional journey with Karacabey Birlikspor after developing in the Bursaspor youth academy. His trajectory shifted significantly in 2016 when he joined İstanbulspor. It was here that his performance caught the attention of national scouts; by 2018, while still playing in the TFF First League (Turkey's second division), he earned a call-up to the senior Turkey national team.
The leap from domestic second-tier football to international recognition is rare. In July 2018, Çelik moved to France to join Lille on a five-year contract. He made his Ligue 1 debut shortly after in August 2018. His ability as a versatile defender—capable of playing across both flanks or as a center-back in a back three—allowed him to adapt quickly to different tactical systems across Europe.
Çelik continued his European progression by moving to Italy's Serie A, signing with Roma in July 2022 on a four-year deal. His most recent move occurred in July 2026, when he joined Juventus on a contract running until June 30, 2029. This rapid ascent from the Turkish lower leagues to one of Italy's biggest clubs highlights a modern scouting success story.
His international career has mirrored this growth. He made his first appearance for Turkey in a friendly against Russia on June 5, 2018. His role as a vital national team player was cemented by 2026, following his inclusion within the 26-man roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
