The hidden logic dividing the world of numbers
In short: Not all numbers are created equal. This video breaks down the fundamental categories of numbers, distinguishing between those that can be expressed as simple ratios and those that defy such patterns.
The video explores the distinction between rational and irrational numbers, a core concept for GCSE Mathematics. Rational numbers are defined by their ability to be written as fractions and are further categorized into four types: integers, fractions, terminating decimals, and recurring decimals.
Irrational numbers, such as surds and the constant pi, cannot be expressed as simple fractions. While these concepts are not strictly required for the Foundation tier, they are considered helpful for all students and are suitable for the Higher tier.
