In short: The 2023 American League Championship Series saw the Texas Rangers defeat the Houston Astros four games to three. This historic matchup was the first-ever postseason meeting between these intra-state rivals and the first LCS played entirely within a single state.

The series, which ran from October 15 to October 23, was a best-of-seven playoff for the American League pennant. It marked a significant statistical anomaly: the visiting team won every single game in the seven-game series. This was only the second time in North American professional sports that such a phenomenon occurred, following the 2019 World Series, which also featured the Houston Astros.

Both teams entered the series with identical 90–72 regular-season records. However, their paths were different. The Astros secured the American League West division title for the third consecutive season, earning a first-round bye as the second seed. Although they dominated their division for much of the year, the Rangers qualified as the fifth wild card seed. The Astros clinched their division title on the final day of the season by winning a head-to-head tiebreaker. In contrast, the Rangers entered the postseason as the fifth seed after finishing second in the division.

The series was marked by high tension, including a benches-clearing incident in Game 5. Following an intentional hit-by-pitch on Adolis García, which caused a 12-minute delay, umpire Marvin Hudson ejected García, Astros pitcher Bryan Abreu, and manager Dusty Baker. Ultimately, the Rangers' victory propelled them to the 2023 World Series, where they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks to claim their first franchise title. The confrontation occurred during the fifth game of the series. This intense moment led to a significant delay on the field.

This series marked several milestones, such as the first LCS involving two divisional opponents since 2011 and the first without an AL East club since that same year. Furthermore, no previous LCS had included two clubs from a single state.
