A cargo rocket prepares for its first major test flight
In short: Watch the Antares rocket roll out to its launch pad at Wallops Flight Facility. This video provides a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for a critical test flight designed to eventually ferry supplies to the International Space Station.
Orbital Sciences Corporation is preparing the Antares rocket for a test flight at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport's Pad-0A. While the rocket is designed to carry the Cygnus cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station, this specific test will not include the spacecraft or a rendezvous. Instead, it serves as a preliminary demonstration before a full-up flight planned for later this year.
The Antares rocket is intended to transport experiments and supplies to orbit. This rollout is part of a broader schedule at Wallops, which also supports sounding rockets and missions from various global locations including Alaska, Norway, the Marshall Islands, and Australia.
